SOFWA since it has been formed managed trained small scale traders of 130 (97 Female and 33 Male) coastal communities in Mogadishu on local fish preserving methodologies from 2015 to date and environment health and good practices fishery markets which include:
Health Practices
- Hand washing facilities must be available;
- Food should be served on the plate.
- Water storage facilities should be covered always when not in use.
- Waste and rubbish should be kept in containers or other disposal ways in place.
- Personal hygiene should be maintained at highest level when handling fish.
Fish Preservation Techniques.
The coastal communities were trained on the following methodologies of fresh fish preservation techniques.
- Smoking
- Salting
- Drying
- Sun- drying.
- Refrigeration
